I am deeply honored to share that my doctoral research has been recognized under the category of Academic Research Recognition as one of the five finalists at the prestigious World Literacy Summit, standing out among 108 dissertations submitted from around the globe. This recognition not only highlights the significance of my work but also underscores the importance of advancing literacy within Career and Technical Education (CTE) as a means to drive social change, break cycles of poverty, and promote socioeconomic mobility.
The World Literacy Summit: A Global Platform for Literacy Advocacy
The World Literacy Summit, held biannually at Oxford University, is a globally renowned event that brings together literacy leaders, policymakers, researchers, and educators from over 85 countries. The summit serves as a platform to advocate for literacy as a cornerstone of sustainable development and social equity. It features diverse presentations on topics such as early childhood literacy, digital literacy, and literacy’s role in addressing gender inequality and community development,
This year’s summit was particularly special for me as I presented my doctoral study research tomorrow in Room 6 at the Examination Schools at Oxford University. My project study, which was completed as part of my doctoral capstone with Walden University in 2023, delves into how integrating literacy into CTE programs can empower individuals to overcome socioeconomic barriers. It is available for public access online.
The Impact of Literacy in Career and Technical Education
My research focuses on the intersection of literacy and CTE, emphasizing how embedding reading and writing skills into technical education equips students with both academic and practical tools for success. CTE programs are uniquely positioned to enhance literacy because they combine rigorous academic content with hands-on training. This dual approach motivates students by connecting learning to real-world applications, making literacy more relevant and engaging.
For example, students in CTE courses often engage with industry-specific texts, technical manuals, and trade publications. These materials not only improve their reading comprehension but also prepare them for workplace communication. Additionally, writing assignments such as project reports or business plans help develop critical thinking and organizational skills. By fostering these competencies, CTE programs contribute to breaking cycles of poverty by equipping students with skills that enhance employability and upward mobility.
Literacy as a Catalyst for Social Change
Education has long been recognized as a powerful driver of social mobility. By cultivating both social and cultural capital, it enables individuals to access opportunities that were previously out of reach. My research highlights how literacy within CTE can serve as a bridge for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds to enter well-paying careers, thereby disrupting intergenerational poverty.
Moreover, literacy empowers communities by fostering informed decision-making and active participation in societal development. In today’s digital age, where technological advancements are reshaping industries, digital literacy is particularly crucial. Ensuring equitable access to education and technology can further amplify the role of CTE in promoting social mobility.
Acknowledgment from Esteemed Scholars
Being selected as a finalist at the World Literacy Summit is an award in itself, given the caliber of judges evaluating the submissions. The panel was composed by distinguished professors from Oxford University. Their acknowledgment lends tremendous credibility to my work and inspires me to continue advocating for literacy-driven solutions to global challenges.
I would also like to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Dr. John Gabrieli, this year’s award winner. Dr. Gabrieli’s groundbreaking work at MIT and the McGovern Institute for Brain Research has significantly advanced our understanding of brain mechanisms related to cognition and learning disorders such as dyslexia. His contributions exemplify how research can transform lives by addressing critical issues in education and mental health.
Looking Ahead
After my presentation at Oxford University, I am filled with gratitude for this opportunity to share my findings on such an esteemed global stage. This recognition is not just a personal milestone but also a testament to the transformative power of education and literacy in creating pathways out of poverty.
I remain committed to advancing this mission through continued research and advocacy. Together with educators, policymakers, and community leaders worldwide, we can harness the potential of literacy to build a more equitable and inclusive society.
For those interested in exploring my work further, my doctoral capstone can be accessed online through Walden University’s repository, ProQuest, ERIC or Google Scholar.
Conscious networking—rooted in intentionality, authenticity, and mutual value—has emerged as a transformative strategy for sustainable business growth. Unlike transactional networking, it prioritizes meaningful connections that align with shared values and long-term goals. Here’s why it matters:
1. Building Trust and Authentic Relationships Conscious networking fosters trust by prioritizing genuine engagement over superficial exchanges. By understanding others’ needs and offering value without immediate expectations, professionals create lasting partnerships. For example, sharing expertise or making strategic introductions strengthens credibility and reciprocity.
2. Access to Opportunities and Innovation A well-nurtured network opens doors to unadvertised opportunities, collaborations, and industry insights. Diverse perspectives within a network spark innovation, helping businesses adapt to trends and solve challenges creatively. Communities like Conscious Business Connections exemplify how aligned networks drive regenerative practices and collective growth.
3. Enhancing Brand Reputation and Influence Active participation in networks positions businesses as thought leaders. Engaging in discussions, mentoring, or hosting events helps build visibility and attract like-minded clients or partners. Forbes highlights that authentic networking shifts the focus from selling to serving, amplifying long-term impact.
4. Resilience Through Support Systems A conscious network acts as a safety net during crises, offering mentorship, referrals, and emotional support. For entrepreneurs, this ecosystem accelerates problem-solving and reduces isolation.
Key Practices for Conscious Networking
Be Intentional: Target connections aligned with your mission.
Give First: Prioritize helping others without immediate returns. [Universal Principle of Oneness and Wisdom]
Engage Continuously: Maintain relationships through consistent, value-driven interactions.
By integrating these principles, businesses cultivate networks that fuel growth, resilience, and purpose-driven success.
Resilience under uncertainty is adapting, recovering, and thriving amidst unpredictable challenges. It is not merely about enduring adversity but transforming it into an opportunity for growth. In today’s volatile world, marked by economic disruptions, social upheavals, and global crises, resilience has become an essential skill.
Uncertainty often triggers anxiety because the human brain seeks predictability and safety. However, re-framing uncertainty as an opportunity rather than a threat can significantly shift one’s mindset. This involves recognizing that possibilities exist, even in the most challenging circumstances. For instance, focusing on what can be controlled—such as setting attainable goals, maintaining routines, and prioritizing self-care—can help individuals regain stability and clarity amidst chaos.
Building resilience also requires fostering self-awareness. Practices like mindfulness can help reset focus to the present moment, reducing stress and enhancing adaptability. Additionally, boosting self-esteem through self-compassion, self-care, and reflection on past achievements strengthens one’s internal foundation during turbulent times. Social support plays a critical role in resilience. Seeking help or sharing challenges is a sign of strength, not weakness. Furthermore, gratitude and learning from past experiences can cultivate a resilient mindset by highlighting positives even in adverse situations. Ultimately, resilience under uncertainty is about embracing change with courage, flexibility, and hope—turning life’s unpredictability into a pathway for personal growth.
“Peace is not something you wish for, it is something you make, something you are, something you do and something you give away.” ― Robert Fulghum
Every little step towards the attainment of peace makes a huge impact on humanity. The idea behind TAPN2U is our interconnectedness- our Oneness. As we unite as one, the world will be a better place with peace reigning in our hearts first and foremost. TAPN2U is all about tapping into our own potentials, utilizing our talents and gifts to give back to humanity and being stalwarts of change in the world.
“Dr. Anita’s journey parallels that of the alchemist, driven by a quest to understand her relationship with the Creator, Universe, and humanity. Her exploration of Metaphysics stemmed from a compassion for the downtrodden and a quest to comprehend the world’s sadness, leading her to believe in the inherent presence of God within individuals. Through experiences like her work in a local prison, where she discovered latent talents in inmates, Dr. Anita formulated the TAPN2U Movement. This movement emphasizes deepening self-awareness, recognizing interconnectedness, and utilizing understanding, love, wisdom, and thought healing to achieve inner peace and contribute to collective harmony. Dr. Anita’s lifelong commitment to these principles suggests the TAPN2U Movement is a manifestation of her purpose, echoing the sentiment of fostering peace within oneself and thereby in the world.”
What brought about the noble global initiative? On Oct. 9, 2021, at 0900 which happened worldwide, the ALL-Ladies League ~ Oneness & Wisdom walked 2 miles for Peace. To this day, Dr. Anita Caprice Powell, Msc.D. believes that there is still within the Truth Center of her Heart, our Energy which flows throughout this planet and the Universe.
The next year, March 14, 2022, they began a Global 12-month Movement as TAPN2U Peace Partners. February 13, 2023, marked their 12 th month and started the TAPN2U Peace Movement which was then represented by two countries. It has been a groundbreaking first year as they already have 13 Countries represented! Last year 2023, they started with 11 Countries.
And the dynamic Movement continues up to this day. They began again on March 13, 2023, and continued until February 12, 2024, this year. On March 11, 2024, they continued with the Peace Partner Movement, this time it’s a Sister Peace Partner Movement, representing 12 Countries:
Albania
Grenada Chile
Trinidad & Tobago France
Pakistan Hungary
United Kingdom India
United States of America
Spain
Philippines
When asked what prompted her to organize the movement, her vision, and the kind of fulfillment her advocacy gives her, Dr. Anita C. Powell, Msc.D.., Founder of TAPN2U answered: “The motivation within the TAPN2U Movement was and still is to make a difference in challenges like loneliness, depression, and hopelessness through promoting inner peace and self-awareness. By advocating for cognitive restructuring and spiritual growth, the focus is to offer a path to thought healing and empowerment. Recognizing the interconnectedness of individuals and the presence of Divine essence within each person, the inspiration is to provide hope and encouragement, emphasizing that no one is truly alone. Its vision of a world where individuals practice daily thought awareness of peace, love contributes to a collective of emotional world healing, influencing our global community. Fostering a unified consciousness focused on healing and love, the movement aims to improve individual lives and contribute to global peace. The anecdote of a 16-year-old praying for world peace highlights the timeless yearning for a better world and the significance of movements like TAPN2U.
As we continue to share the message, cultivate inner peace, advocating world peace, may our efforts touch many lives, leading to a more peaceful, loving, and compassionate world. Let there be a release of Peace, Hope, Love and let it flow from within me.”

To be resilient is to be exceptional. We must have the fortitude to stand tall no matter what is happening. Resilience is achieved through the consistent progress we make each day towards our goals. These goals are the benchmarks we design our life around. To live as the exceptional human being we have the potential to be, we must be willing to risk, to know when to rest and to be unafraid to be different from the rest. To be resilient we must view challenge as the catalyst that inspires our personal development. Life’s challenges will absolutely test us to our core. It can be scary. Yet, it is exactly when a challenge brings us to our knees that we cultivate our inner wisdom, our integrity and intelligence.
Entrepreneur Magazine
Resilience in today’s day and age is touted as a priceless skill. It is a skill worth developing and worth nourishing, for it provides your mind and soul with the mindful skills needed to bounce back from adversity. I have found in my personal life that resilience is a skill that is developed through hardship and trauma but can also be made stronger by conscious effort, and I won’t put it lightly – hard work.
Resilience can be developed and increased in the following ways:
Self Respecting – we have to get used to not seeking approval from the outside world but listening to our inner voice and respecting that voice
Driven – we have to cultivevate our inner “go-getter” personality
Discerning – we must cultivate carefully our friendships and be wary of any negative energy that tries to come near us
Tasteful – The resilient are wise to understanding that confidence doesn’t need for attention, it draws attention. We value the understanding of less is more. Hard work is signature to our approach to business, rather than the craving for public accolades
Nurturing – Nurturing makes us someone others want to have in their lives and we inspire others to give back to us all that we give
Gritty – The resilient feel stress just as anyone else does but their tough-mindedness helps them live the motto to never quit
Empathy in relationships – The resilient compliment often and are wise to the benefits of genuinely making others feel valuable
Everyday circumstances and big life challenges are crucial for building the skill of resilience, and it is never too late to try to build this crucial life skill.
